Geekologists, You Have Your Orders

Psychonauts Cover

I don’t ask too much of you, beloved Geekology readers.  I rely on your support, I encourage you to comment, but most days you’re free to do pretty much whatever.  Not today, though.  Today is different.  Steam’s Midweek Madness has truly outdone itself, and in an effort to bolster geek culture everywhere, I am giving you your first ever Ology orders.  Your mission, should you choose to accept it:

Stand up. Walk over to your couch, and remove its cushions. Stick your hand into the exposed crevasses of your sofa, taking care not to lose any fingers in any reclining mechanisms which may be hiding within your chair. Dig out eight quarters, or twenty dimes, or forty nickels, or two-hundred pennies, or any combination of these denominations which add up to 200 cents.

Deposit your recently excavated horde in your bank account, or the bank account of a trusted friend or relative. Access Steam, and use these funds to purchase Psychonauts, which, until tomorrow, only costs 200 cents. Download the game, and play it. When you get a free moment, return the cushions to your couch, so it can collect more funds for the next time Steam slashes the price on one of our favorite games ever.

For those unfamiliar with Psychonauts, it’s a mind-bending platformer with a madcap, Tim Burton style aesthetic.  ‘Zany’ doesn’t even begin to cover it.  If you enjoyed anything–anything–about Brutal Legend, you owe it to yourself and to Geekology to see Tim Schaefer’s last heroic effort in the field of game design.  Break out your Rivers Cuomo glasses and start grooming your soul patch, because you’re about to enjoy the finest in cult classics.

Now, I don’t want to suggest  that I’m going to send any bad mojo your way if you fail to capitalize on this offer.  Far from it.  But if I see you on Steam today and you aren’t playing Psychonauts?  I may update the birthday list.
